Wild Kingdom

I thought I would edutain you today with a few facts
about the animals that live here on Vancouver Island.

First some of the things we don't have:
Skunks (good news. too stinky)
Porcupines (very good. too pointy)
Grizzlies (also good. too scary)
Heartworm (yay! wait - no yummy Heartgard chewables for me?)

Now, some of the things we do have:

Eagles!


Seals!

I don't have pictures, but so far we have also seen
deer, otters, and alligator lizards.

The other thing we have here are really big kitties called cougars.
I don't want to see one of those!

Salty Dog

The big lake here is funny.
The water keeps chasing me when I try to go in.
And when I take a drink -- blech!


I'm starting to get the hang of it though.
The sandy beach is my favorite place to go wading.

Dogs on Logs

Where have I been? Oh, just a little busy
working on the launch of my new magazine
for dogs, S&T (Snout & Tummyrub)

Today's big outing was to:

Albert Head Lagoon!


Well, the Lagoon itself is kinda off-limits,
but I can run on the beach.


I thought those people were dogs. They played with me!


Then I met a real dog, Snoop. She has lots of energy,
racing all around and over the driftwood logs.


She pestered me until I played with her. Kids!

Walking to Niagara Falls

Goldstream park is another good place for a walk.
Tonight we're going to Niagara Falls.


Yup, this is it!
Hey, if you don't believe me, look it up.

A Busy Afternoon

Squirrel Patrol

My morning schedule is pretty hectic.
I guard the deck door.


I monitor the area for any unusual activity.
No one gets past this dog.


Hey you squirrel! Don't even think about it!

This is the park near where I'm going to be living.
This is where I will go on my walks.

My New Island

I'm very busy on my new island. Every day I explore new places.


I can't post all the smells on my blog, but here is the view from Mill Hill park.

Penticton Dog Days

It was hot when we arrived in Penticton.


I went for many a wade in Okanagan Lake.


When I wasn't trying to chase Rudy, I found a little nook in the yard to lie in.


Canada is a wonderful place where all citizens are entitled to free Jane Siberry concerts.

Oh Canadog!

Okay, back to my big trip. After stopping for a walk at Grand Coulee, we got back on the road.


The sun was setting as we headed up the Okanogan River valley in Washington toward Osoyoos.


I had to wait in the car at the border. But take note fellow canines -- they didn't even check my paperwork!

Montana Standoff

Editors note: This is backtracking a bit, but here's Sam's encounter with a Montana squirrel. There was a lengthy standoff: the ground squirrel knew exactly how long Sam's leash was.


Finally, he made a dash for our picnic.

Heading for the Border

Grand Coulee Dam! We're going to Canada today!

Montana and Wyoming

The Beartooth Highway took us way up high in Montana.


And down the other side into Wyoming on a winding mountain road.

Good dog, Bad Lands

Waiting. With my pillow.


We crossed the Missouri River without seeing any snakes.


The Badlands don't have much in the way of shade.


So I stayed cool inside the car.

Onward to South Dakota

Minnesota is pretty. That's where Auntie Jennifer comes from.

One time I threw up on her carpet, but she didn't get mad.


If I roll in the grass I don't have to get back in the car right away.


In Mitchell, South Dakota, I searched for bunnies.


I found a big one outside our motel.

Pennsylvania to Wisconsin

Another big ride!

To tell you the truth, I didn't see much of Pennsylvania, except for the rest areas.


This is my comfy back seat. I think I slept through Ohio.



It was a day of many rest stops. The people get to eat lunch and I go for a walk.


Most of the time this is my view. I think this is Illinois. Or Indiana.



Wake me up when we get to Wisconsin.

Some of you may be wondering if we're ever going to see any good sights. Don't worry, it starts getting good tomorrow.

The Big Ride: Massachusetts to Pennsylvania

Here I am, ready for my ride in the car.


We drove for a long time. Mostly it was rainy. I took a lot of naps.


I think this is our new apartment!
